Things to do in Ürgüp

Ürgüp is the largest town in the region and the one with the most going on after dark: a central square ringed with restaurants, wine bars and cafés that stay open well past the point Göreme and Uçhisar go quiet. It also carries the region's wine reputation, with several producer tasting rooms within walking distance of the centre (covered separately on our Ürgüp wine cellars page).

The trade-off is distance: Love Valley's viewpoints and the Göreme Open Air Museum are both around a 15-minute drive away, so a base here means renting a car or relying on minibuses rather than walking to the trailheads the way you can from Göreme or Uçhisar. Ürgüp sits at roughly 1,050 m altitude, a little higher than Göreme.

Rooms in the town's cave hotels run from about 60 to 180 EUR a night depending on season and standard, similar to Göreme pricing but with a wider spread of larger, higher-end properties.
