Things to do in Hacıbektaş

Hacıbektaş sits about 45 minutes' drive from Avanos and does not belong on a fairy chimney itinerary. The town exists around the tekke of Hacı Bektaş Veli, the historic centre of the Alevi-Bektashi spiritual tradition, and the complex reads as a set of Ottoman-era courtyards, cells and tombs rather than a geological attraction.

Entry to the museum section runs a small ticket fee, typically a few EUR, and a couple of hours covers the courtyards, the kitchen quarters and the tomb of Hacı Bektaş Veli itself. The site remains an active place of devotion for Alevi visitors, particularly around the August commemorations, so quiet, modest dress and no loud photography around the tombs are expected rather than optional.

Most travellers combine the visit with a full day out from Göreme, since there is little else nearby to fill a half-day trip.
