Things to do at Sultanhanı Caravanserai

Sultanhanı Caravanserai stands beside the old trade road between Cappadocia and Konya, roughly 2 hours by car from Göreme, and is the largest Seljuk caravanserai in Turkey. Built in the 13th century, it centres on an open courtyard with a monumental carved stone portal, leading through to a covered hall that once sheltered merchants, camels and pack animals overnight.

Entry runs to around 3 to 5 EUR, and there is not much to detain you: most visits last 30 to 45 minutes, walking the courtyard arcades and the dim, vaulted hall before moving on. This is architecture, not a living site, so treat it as a stop rather than a destination.

It pairs naturally with a Konya-bound journey or a longer day combining Ihlara Valley and the Tuz Gölü salt lake, rather than a standalone trip from Göreme.
