Things to do in Rose Valley

Rose Valley (Güllüdere) is usually reached from Çavuşin, around 5 minutes' drive from Göreme, or from a track near Ortahisar. It runs longer than neighbouring Red Valley and carries a scattering of rock-cut churches with faded frescoes, far quieter than the ticketed churches at the Göreme Open-Air Museum.

The path is cut through soft tuff, with a few steeper sections where the rock has eroded into steps, and there is little shade for most of the route. Rose Valley eventually joins Red Valley lower down, near the approach to Çavuşin, which is why many walkers combine the two.

After rain the surface turns slick and puddled in places, and waymarking is sparse compared with a European mountain trail, so a wrong turn is easy.
