Things to do in Red Valley

Red Valley (Kızılçukur) is the short version of the sunset-viewpoint hike that Rose Valley does at greater length. From the roadside car park near Çavuşin, it is a 5 to 10 minute walk to the main viewpoint, with no long approach and only limited climbing needed to reach it. The path crosses reddish tuff with a couple of narrow, steep stretches where the rock has been cut into ridges, so trainers with grip help more than sandals.

The valley meets Rose Valley at a signed junction roughly 30 to 40 minutes further in, but the two are separate routes and the sunset crowd rarely walks that far. Expect the viewpoint itself to fill with visitors and camera tripods in the hour before sunset during the April to October season; anyone picturing an empty ridge should reconsider. Exact sunset time shifts through the year, so check it locally rather than assuming a fixed hour.

Çavuşin is about 5 minutes from Göreme by car.
