Things to do at Tuz Gölü (Salt Lake)
Tuz Gölü sits roughly 1 h 30 from Göreme on the road towards Ankara or Konya, and it is a photo stop, not a swimming destination. The lake is Turkey's second-largest, but shallow enough that most of its surface is a crust of white salt rather than open water.
There is no organised bathing here: the thin film of water and soft salt underfoot make a proper swim impractical, and the appeal is entirely visual, particularly late in the day when the light flattens across the white ground.
Whether you get a mirror-like water sheet or a dry salt pan depends on the season and recent rainfall, so the lake looks markedly different from one visit to the next. It has nothing to do with the Ziga hot springs, which are a separate stop with their own thermal pools.
