Things to do in Hattuşa

Hattuşa, the former Hittite capital, is roughly 2 h 30 by road from Göreme, and the site itself is too large to walk: the perimeter wall alone runs several kilometres, so you drive between the Lion Gate, the King's Gate, the Great Temple and the Sphinx Gate, then continue about 2 km to the rock sanctuary at Yazılıkaya.

Counting the drive out, several hours on site and the drive back, this is a long day trip rather than a half-day add-on, and a realistic departure from Göreme is 7:00-7:30am if you want more than a rushed hour among the ruins.

If you plan to pair Hattuşa with Kırşehir on the way rather than squeezing everything into one day from Göreme, an overnight stop near Boğazkale is the more comfortable option than a same-day return.
