Things to do in Kaymaklı Underground City

Kaymaklı is the widest underground city open to visitors after Derinkuyu, with four levels open to the public rather than eight. The trade-off is shape, not size: corridors here run lower and narrower, so long stretches mean walking stooped, but the network of side rooms is denser, with storage cellars, stables and wine presses branching off the main shafts.

Kaymaklı is the default stop on most Green Tour itineraries, which makes it the more crowded of the two cities whenever a coach convoy arrives between roughly 10am and 3pm. Turning up outside that window matters more than picking Kaymaklı over Derinkuyu for its footprint.

Anyone uneasy in low, enclosed spaces should think twice before booking: there is no way to skip the tightest passages once inside.
