Things to do in Nevşehir

Nevşehir is the provincial capital, and most visitors only pass through it rather than stay: it is where the region's administration, hospitals and larger shops are based, not where the fairy chimneys are.

It sits about 20 minutes from Göreme by road, which is the main reason it comes up at all — Nevşehir Kapadokya Airport (NAV), roughly 30-40 minutes further out, is the arrival and departure point for most package itineraries, and buses from Kayseri or Konya usually route through the Nevşehir otogar before onward transfers to Göreme, Ürgüp or Uçhisar.

The town has its own hilltop castle and troglodyte quarter, covered on a separate page, but beyond that there is little reason to linger: pharmacies, supermarkets, a state hospital and bus connections are the practical draw. Almost nobody books accommodation here; Göreme, Ürgüp and Uçhisar cover the region's hotels and cave-hotel stays instead.
