Things to do in Soğanlı Valley

Soğanlı is two adjoining valleys, Aşağı and Yukarı Soğanlı, roughly 1 h 15 by car from Göreme in the far south of the region. The draw is a cluster of rock-cut churches with carved domes and traces of frescoes, spread along the valley floor rather than fenced into a single ticketed complex, plus a small village at the entrance where women sell handmade rag dolls from stalls and doorsteps.

It is the anchor stop of the Blue Tour, the day trip that also usually covers Kayseri, yet it sees far fewer independent visitors than Göreme's open-air museum or Ihlara Valley. That is down to distance and the lack of public transport, not the quality of the site itself.

Allow at least half a day once travel time from Göreme is factored in, and expect a quiet, unstaffed feel rather than a polished visitor centre.
